CWC Royal Navy Diver Wristwatch c.1996
The Cabot Watch Company (CWC) was established in 1972 and supplied watches to the British military and various government organisations.
In 1980, CWC was awarded the contract by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to supply wristwatches to the Royal Navy to replace the much-coveted Rolex Military Submariner.
The early CWC Royal Navy Diver wristwatches were powered by automatic movements until 1983 when quartz movements were introduced and used until the last examples were issued in 2000.
The NATO reference of 0555/6645-99-757-3314 and serial number of 201/96 to the reverse of the case back of the watch for sale confirms it was issued to the Royal Marines in 1996.
From 1980 to 2000 it is believed CWC supplied around 3,000 dive watches to the Royal Navy and only around 300-500 are thought to have been issued in 1996.
Some further reading regarding these watches can be found via the excellent website, CWC Addict, a link to which is as follows: https://cwcaddict.com/rn-diver
Due to its increasing popularity and good overall condition, the watch for sale represents an excellent opportunity to purchase a wonderful new vintage British military timepiece.
