Omega 6B/159 RAF Pilots Wristwatch c.1943
These beautiful wristwatches were issued to RAF navigators and pilots during the Second World War.
RAF watches from this period were supplied by several prestigious watch manufacturers including Longines, Jaeger Le-Coultre and Omega. The majority of these watches followed a standard specification, which included a white dial with black Arabic numerals, centre seconds and blued steel non-luminous hands.
These watches are commonly referred to by their RAF stores reference number 6B/159. This RAF stores reference refers to aircraft navigation equipment.
The wonderful watch for sale was produced around 1943 at the heart of WW2.
Interestingly, the watch features a later Ministry of Defence (MoD) replacement black dial with luminous hour markers. The original blue steel hands have also been lumed, making the dial and hands configuration similar to those watches which were re-cased and re-issued to the RAF in 1956.
The Omega 6B/159 for sale is a striking and interesting variant of a hugely popular and iconic military timepiece. As such, the watch represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a rare and unusual piece of British WW2 aviation history.
